BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT POLICY

We have a behaviour management policy to foster the safety of all students. Our policy ensures that we act consistently as we aim to develop:

  •  self respect in students

  •  respect for the rights of others

  •  a sense of responsibility for our behaviour

Each right is matched to a responsibility, an example of how this works in practice.

Right

To be treated with respect

Responsibility

To respect others

Practise

Good manners

Social Skilling

Developing social skills fosters positive behaviour.

We support students by:

  •   explicit teaching of social and emotional skills (Bounce Back Program)

  •  negotiating class rules

  •  holding class meetings

  •  giving opportunities for leadership

  •  rewarding appropriate behaviour

In The Classroom

Each classroom aims to use a common language and a stepped approach to behaviour as follows:

1.  Rule reminder.

2.  Reminder of choice/task clarification.

3.  “Time out” within classroom.

4.  Relocation to another classroom.

5.  “Time Out” relocation with Principal.

6.  Negotiated re-entry to class.

7.  Notification of parents.

8.  Internal suspension and behaviour contract.

10.  Suspension at home.

In The Playground

We follow these rules:

  •  play safely, sensibly and co-operatively

  •  solve problems by talking and listening

  •  use appropriate language

  •  play in correct areas

  •  take care of our environment

  •  use equipment safely

  •  wear a hat at all times.

SUNSMART POLICY

Our SunSmart Policy has been developed to ensure that all students and staff attending this school are protected from skin damage caused by the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.  It is implemented throughout the year, with particular emphasis in Terms 1 & 3.

As part of general SunSmart strategies, our school will:

EXPECTATIONS

  •  Require children to wear hats which protect the face, neck and ears whenever they are outside (e.g. recess, P.E. lessons, lunch, sport, carnivals, outdoor excursions and activities) in Terms 1 & 3.  During Term 2, the wearing of a SunSmart school hat or Beanie is optional.

  •  Inform parents when enrolling their children of the SunSmart Policy and request them to purchase a school approved hat (legionnaire style or broad rimmed hat).

  •  Encourage parents to provide SPF15+ (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen for their child’s use on a daily basis and particularly during sports and aquatic activities, camps and excursions.  Sunscreen is provided for all staff members.

  •  Encourage children to use available areas of shade for outdoor activities.

  •  Provide designated shade areas for students who do not have their hats at school.

  •  Encourage staff and parents to act as role models by practising SunSmart behaviours (wearing protective hats and clothing for all outdoor activities and seeking shade whenever possible).
